Jon Charlton
Principal
Mr Charlton brings to Kilvington Grammar a lifelong passion for creating excellence through carefully tailored primary and secondary education. Devoted to providing students with the best possible social and intellectual tools to succeed in a highly competitive world, he understands that young children benefit greatly from a nurturing yet rigorous educational environment. It is his firm belief that students must always be allowed to exercise their innate talents, as well as being given the chance to develop crucial new skills.
Mr Charlton has had extensive experience in education holding positions at Elwood College, Kingswood College and St Michael’s Grammar before becoming Principal of Kilvington Girls’ Grammar in 2008.
Mr Charlton has completed two degrees, the first in Science at Monash University and the second a Theological degree from Melbourne University. He has also worked as a Baptist Pastor, primarily with young people in the Blackburn and St Kilda areas. Mr Charlton has taught a rich variety of subjects over the years including Mathematics, Science, Ethics, Religious Education and Personal Development courses.
Mr Charlton is well known for his leadership and the development of pastoral care programs that take into consideration the wellbeing of each student. He is also instrumental in working with the teaching staff to provide exciting learning opportunities for students of all abilities.
One of Mr Charlton’s passions is to assist young people, and 17 years ago he helped set up a house in St Kilda for students who are unable to live at home. The program provides a home-like environment for students so they can complete their secondary education and improve their opportunities in life.
Mr Charlton’s vision is to see all young people achieve their very best and become responsible global citizens.
