Head of Senior School
Matt Brinson has completed a Bachelor of Science (Zoology, Marine Science and Geography), Graduate Diploma of Education and Master of Education (Science and Information Technology). He has taught at Deakin University, Beaconhills College, Methodist Ladies’ College, and Northcote High School.
In 2004, Matt was nominated for the BHP Billiton Science Teacher of the Year Awards. In 2004 to 2005 he was the curriculum collaborator for David de Rothschild’s Adventure Ecology polar expedition. He is widely published including: "Using Picture Story Books in the Classroom", Let’s Find Out – STAV Primary Teachers Magazine 2006; and has contributed chapters to Longman / Pearson Education’s "Geography 2 - Oceans and Rainforests" and "SOSE 2’ – Rainforests". He has presented at the Science Teachers Association of Victoria (STAV) Science Teachers Conference and the Annual Geography Teachers Association of Victoria (GTAV) conference.
As well as Head of Senior School, Matt is the former Academic Dean of Science, oversees the Pastoral Care of all students Years 7-12, manages the implementation of Australian Curriculum P-12, and oversees the introduction of iPad and BYOD technology into the Science curriculum.
As an educator, Matt’s philosophy is that each student should be given the opportunity to develop life skills through group interaction experiences and by independent experiences. He is passionate about instilling respect for self and others in the community of which acceptance, celebration and appreciation of diversity is a cornerstone. His overall goal is to help students develop a love for learning, to teach clear thinking based on research, analysis and problem-solving, and to set and achieve realistic and fulfilling goals.
