On Thursday 24 June at 5am 10 excited students, Mrs Purvis and Miss Boutselis embarked for a long 25 hour trip to France. Some students had never flown more than one hour, therefore it was with a little bit of apprehension that they boarded the plane!
When we arrived in Paris the next day, it was
7pm: warm, sunny and daylight! The adventure had just begun and we never stopped from that day! We took four trains, crossed France from Paris, toured the magnificent Châteaux de la Loire, Montpellier in the South (40 degrees; there was a heatwave), Nimes and back to 'la Ville Lumiere': Paris. We had to spend three and a half days in Paris and we saw it all! La Tour Eiffel (yes, to the top!), L’Arc de Triomphe (to the top and the fantastic view of Le Champ de Mars), Les Champs-Elysées, Notre-Dame, Le Musée du Louvre et la Joconde, la Pyramide du Louvre, Saint-Germain des Prés, Les Halles, Montmartre by night and on the last day, Versailles, The Splendours and the 900-hectare garden. It is with some sadness that we left France, the summer and so much beauty.
The amazing experience of the French trip will always be remembered by us as a trip of a lifetime. Every part of it was memorable, but the most special was Montpellier. In Montpellier we had the opportunity to stay with French families. This really opened our minds to the daily life of the French people. We also attended a French language international school. We learnt a range of vocabulary and the history of France by touring around Montpellier and Nimes.
The families were very welcoming and introduced us to a whole other way of life. We ate delicious gourmet French cuisine which consisted of crêpes, baguettes and much more!! Another exciting part of the trip was all the shopping and the French feeling of the main shopping strip. Overall the trip was a huge success and we have certainly come back with many treasured memories and a fluent French accent!
