The Judy Allen Award
Each year, a member of the School community is presented with the prestigious Judy Allen Award. It is awarded to members of the community who have made an outstanding contribution to the School.
This special Award has been named in honour of Judy Allen, an active member of the Kilvington community whose passion and enthusiasm for the School has been reflected in her involvement in a wide range of roles, including student, parent, staff member and Board member, just to name a few.
The Award recipient receives a framed certificate, and his or her name is included on the Honour Board in Dalton Hall.
The constitution for the Judy Allen Award can be obtained by contacting the PFA at pfa@kilvington.vic.edu.au

Judy Allen Award Winner 2012
This year’s most worthy winner is a Kilvington staff member, Val O’Bryan. When a staff member is nominated it must be for ‘exceptional service’ over and above what could be reasonably expected in their professional position or for consistently ‘excellent service’ over a number of years to the satisfaction of the Award Committee. Val is the former Director of 10 years of the Early Learning Centre. Beginning in 2001, she began transforming the ELC from a two class 30 children centre, to a five class 90 children centre of ELC excellence with long waiting lists. Tragically Val had to resign due to ill health early this year.
Val worked tirelessly, including many nights and weekends to create a play-based centre of excellence for children and families in the ELC. Her love of students, passion for learning and ability to mould a team of educators has been exemplary. Due to her efforts the ELC became an incredibly friendly and happy place, brought about by her professionalism, warmth, care and vibrant spirit. Under her leadership, parent surveys indicated a 95% satisfaction rating which is an absolutely outstanding achievement.
Judy Allen Award Winner 2011- Joan Cleghorn
For many years Joan worked tirelessly with the PFA, organising fetes and was Treasurer for 3 years. Joan also audited the PFA books for 35 years. Joan helped to establish the Past Mothers Association with a previous Judy Allen award winner, Jean Harley. Her commitment to the School is unwavering and she has only missed one Celebration Night/Speech Night since 1964. Someone very close to Joan, her beloved daughter Ann, summed up her service to the School in this way. “My Mum quietly helps everyone and anyone all the time, no job is ever too small or big for her to offer assistance”. We thank Joan for the outstanding service she has given to Kilvington over many years and acknowledge her as a very worthy winner of the 2011 Judy Allen Award.
