Developing students’ musical ability and appreciation is one of our School’s most important tasks. Kilvington's Music program is conducted in the spirit of catering for the ‘whole child’. Students are able to choose from a wide range of options, in order to find the program that best suits their needs. Music has been shown to have significant benefits for students’ academic studies by developing concentration, comprehension and dexterity. Studying a musical instrument has also been shown to assist children’s cognitive abilities.

A comprehensive musical education also enables students to express their creativity in a structured context, offers a platform for personal achievement, and strengthens self-esteem. Kilvington's Music program also offers considerable social and cultural benefits. By joining one of Kilvington's many bands or ensembles, students are able to participate with others of similar interests, build on their communication skills, and work productively together as part of a team.

Our well-stocked Music Department and experienced Music staff provide the opportunity for students to learn a diverse range of instruments. Kilvington offers expert private music tuition, with the convenience of an in-school location. We are very lucky to have expert staff teaching Music, many of whom have professional performance careers and offer excellent mentoring to upcoming students. To prevent students from missing classes, we also ensure that lesson times have a minimal impact on academic learning. We offer a comprehensive music program from ELC – VCE. We also encourage and administrate enrolment in AMEB and Trinity external examinations, to provide students with genuine goals to strive for.
