Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable
— Leonard Bernstein

Developing students’ musical ability and appreciation is one of our School’s most important goals. Extensive research suggests that music has significant benefits for students’ academic studies by developing concentration, comprehension and dexterity. Studying a musical instrument assists children’s cognitive abilities.

Students undertake music classes at Kilvington from ELC to VCE and is compulsory to Year 8. Music can be chosen as an elective at Year 9 and studied at VCE from Year 10.

We offer expert private music tuition for a diverse range of instruments, with the convenience of an in-school location. Many of our expert teaching staff have professional performance careers and offer excellent mentoring to upcoming students. Students are encouraged to enroll in AMEB and Trinity external examinations, providing genuine goals to strive for as they begin their musical journey.

The list of instruments offered at Kilvington include: Piano (traditional/Suzuki), Guitar (acoustic/electric and bass), Trombone, Trumpet, French Horn, Drums/Percussion, Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon, Violin, Cello, Double Bass, Viola, Voice and Music Theory.

There are a variety of choirs, orchestras and bands at Kilvington offering students opportunities to collaborate with their peers.

Junior and Senior School productions are performed every year and are well-received by the whole school community.
