By Mr Bahramis, Head of Sport

Winter sport has delivered plenty of memorable moments for Kilvington this year, with students across the Senior and Junior Schools competing at a high level and achieving some fantastic results. There have been plenty of highlights to celebrate, including a historic first appearance at the Herald Sun Shield. Our students have also performed strongly in cross country, athletics and hockey, with some impressive individual and team results along the way. It has been wonderful to see their hard work and team spirit come through across the season.

Senior Girls AFL Make History at the Herald Sun Shield

Our Senior Girls AFL team made history on Thursday 27 August, competing at the Herald Sun Shield for the first time. Taking on some of the strongest school football teams from across Victoria, the girls faced three tough matches. After a loss to Salesian, they responded with impressive wins over Our Lady of Mercy College (22–15) and Loyola College (9–5).

With two wins from three games, Kilvington finished equal first on the table, narrowly missing out on a place in the State Final on percentage. It was an impressive debut at the competition; the girls can be incredibly proud of what they achieved. They showed resilience, determination and plenty of Kilvington spirit on the main stage. A fantastic achievement in our first ever Herald Sun Shield appearance!

Three Senior School Premierships

Kilvington celebrated further success with three Senior teams competing in Grand Finals. Boys A Netball, Girls B Volleyball and Senior Girls AFL all secured premierships.

Congratulations to the players and coaches on their achievements. The support from students in Years 7–12, who braved the cold and rain to cheer on their teams, also helped create an incredible atmosphere and demonstrated the important role school spirit plays in sport.

Junior School Athletics Success

On Wednesday 26 August, 70 Kilvington students from Years 3–6 proudly represented the school at the Balaclava District Athletics Carnival. Our students demonstrated great sportsmanship, determination and team spirit throughout the day, with Kilvington finishing 2nd overall in the Small Schools competition, a first for the Junior School in Athletics. Three students have also qualified for the next stage of competition at the Beachside Division Athletics Championships in October:

Victoria R  – Discus
Tomas V – 100m and 200m Sprint
Ralph H – 200m and 800m

Congratulations to all students and staff who contributed to this fantastic result. It was a great day of athletics, teamwork and school spirit, and we are incredibly proud of everyone's efforts.

Year 7 Teams Celebrate Grand Final Success

Our Year 7 teams also enjoyed Grand Final success on Monday 31 August, with three of our four teams taking home the win. Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball, Boys Volleyball and Girls AFL teams; a fantastic result and a great reward for their efforts throughout the season!

Strong Performances at the EISM Cross Country

Kilvington had more than 80 students representing the school across all year levels at the EISM Cross Country, with our students competing strongly and supporting each other throughout the day. Kilvington finished 2nd overall in Division 2, just 10 points behind first place, while our Girls team finished 1st. A huge congratulations to our individual placegetters: Mia N (1st), Zac T (2nd), Louella W (2nd), and Alannah H (4th).

The early morning training sessions with Coach Max and Miss McLaren clearly paid off, with some outstanding performances across the course. Thank you to all 80+ students who represented Kilvington, and to staff for their commitment to the Cross Country squad. The results are a great reflection of the work that has gone on behind the scenes.

Years 5–6 Hockey Team Crowned Regional Champions

Our Years 5-6 mixed hockey team competed at the Southern Metro Region Finals of School Sport Victoria, securing the Southern Metro Region Champions title and a place at the School Sport Victoria State Finals next month. The team went undefeated across the day, opening with a 7–0 victory before securing 2–1 and 1–0 wins in their remaining matches.

It was a fantastic result for our students and a wonderful reward for the effort, teamwork and commitment they have shown throughout the season. Congratulations to every member of the team, and thank you to the parents, friends and supporters who have cheered them on along the way.
