Our Junior School provides a nurturing and dynamic environment where each child is known, supported and inspired to grow. We foster a love of learning, build confidence, and lay the foundation for a rich and successful educational journey.

I like coming to Kilvington because every day is different, we figure everything out like detectives.

The Kilvington Advantages

Our smaller school size is one of our greatest strengths. With an average of just 14 to 16 students per class, our teachers can provide more individual attention, tailor lessons to student needs, and ensure every child is actively engaged and challenged.

It also allows us to offer rich, personalised experiences that rival those of larger schools, while giving students greater access to leadership opportunities, musical performances, sports, and school productions. This means every child has the chance to participate, shine, and grow in confidence.

Our Junior School is home to seven specialist teachers in areas including Science, Digital Technology, Music, Visual Arts, French, Library, and Health and Physical Education. Students enjoy a broad and enriching experience that nurtures talents across all areas of learning.

Learning Through Connection

We believe that happy, supported children are the best learners. That’s why student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Our caring teachers create a warm, inclusive atmosphere where children feel safe, connected and valued.

Our teachers are passionate educators who see themselves as lifelong learners, growing and evolving alongside their students. They value the rich relationships built in their classrooms and are deeply committed to the joy of teaching and learning. This shared journey of curiosity and growth is what makes our Junior School such a vibrant and nurturing place to be.

From day one, our youngest learners are paired with older Junior School buddies who help them settle in, feel at home, and build confidence. Through strong relationships, consistent support and a whole-child approach, we help students develop resilience, kindness, and a strong sense of self.

Excellence Through Individual Attention

We have high expectations for every student and the results speak for themselves. Kilvington students consistently perform well above the state average in NAPLAN, thanks to our dedicated staff, enriched curriculum and strong support systems. Our NAPLAN results can be viewed here.

We offer a high-quality, research-driven literacy program, beginning with a strong phonics foundation from Prep to Year 2 and continuing with a structured approach to writing across all year levels. From Years 3 to 6, students benefit from Word Origins - an advanced program designed to strengthen reading, spelling, and vocabulary skills.

Our high teacher-to-student ratio and commitment to differentiated learning ensure that every student is both supported and challenged to reach their full potential. We also offer enrichment classes in Mathematics and English for eligible students, providing additional stretch and stimulation.

Beyond the classroom, our vibrant co-curricular program includes chess, robotics, mindfulness, coding, and more - fostering curiosity and creativity. Music plays a key role too, with Strings in Years 2 and 3, Stage Band in Year 5, and an annual musical production for Years 5 and 6 - giving students the chance to shine through performance, build confidence, and develop a love of collaboration.

A Caring and Down-to-Earth Community

Kilvington is more than just a school, it’s a close-knit, welcoming community where relationships matter. Because of our smaller size, students are known by name, by their teachers, by peers, and by our leadership team.

Families are invited to be active participants in school life, whether it’s through classroom activities, community events or informal catch-ups at the school gate. Our educators model a genuine love of learning and often teach side-by-side with students, including our Heads of Junior School and even our Principal.

At Kilvington, every child is supported to thrive - not just academically, but socially, emotionally and personally. It's what sets our community apart.

Talent Development and Enrichment

Every child has a spark, and our Talent Development and Enrichment Program helps it shine. With opportunities to explore passions and take on new challenges, students grow in confidence and develop advanced skills.

We know every learner is different, so we offer tailored, dynamic experiences that meet children where they are and help them stretch further. From specialised programs, to exciting co-curricular activities, we nurture curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. Whether it’s through problem-solving challenges, creative writing, digital technology competitions, science research, or collaborative community projects, students are encouraged to think deeply, explore widely, and aim high, both in and beyond the classroom.

The Character Initiative

Who your child becomes is just as important as what they learn. That’s why we’ve developed The Character Initiative, a unique program designed to nurture students into the best versions of themselves. Rooted in the core principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy, this initiative is thoughtfully embedded into our Junior School through dedicated Wellbeing Time sessions.
