About Us

Kilvington Grammar School is an independent, coeducational Baptist school in Ormond, Melbourne, with approximately 830 students. With a strong sense of community and rich history, the School offers a comprehensive education from Early Learning to VCE.

The Opportunity

The Board of Kilvington is looking for a potential Board members who has specialist skills and connections in the following areas of expertise:

  • Strategic oversight of a not-for-profit organisation.
  • Education leaders, including tertiary networks.
  • Architectural, commercial property and strategic master planning legal expertise.


Responsibilities and Process

The Board is responsible for:

  • Overseeing an effective governance and risk management framework for the School setting its strategic direction.
  • Ensuring high standards of professional and ethical conduct are maintained.
  • Monitoring and reviewing educational delivery.
  • Approving annual budgets and budget reviews.
  • Monitoring and reviewing financial performance.
  • School Principal accountabilities and performance.

Currently, the Board meets around six times per year and considers urgent matters out-of-session as required. The Board also holds in-camera meetings as required. Directors are personally required to:

  • Attend in person or via video conferencing and actively participate in Board meetings.
  • Stay informed about Board matters and be prepared for Board meetings.
  • Serve on sub-committees formed.
  • Build a collegial working relationship with other Directors that contributes to a consensus approach to decisions.
  • Utilise own skills, experience, knowledge and networks to support the ongoing growth and success of Kilvington.


Remuneration

Director and Committee positions are voluntary and there is no remuneration.


Selection Criteria

Applicants should ideally have:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector.
  • Diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Kilvington beneficiaries.
  • Specialist knowledge and connections within their area of expertise.

Applicants must be eligible to be a Board Director and will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check and a Directors Identification number.


Child Safety

Kilvington Grammar School is committed to creating and maintaining a child safe environment in which students feel safe, and are safe. All volunteers and staff are required to:

  • Provide students with a child safe environment
  • Proactively monitor and support student wellbeing
  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of the School’s Child Safe Policies and Code of Conduct, and any other policies and procedures relating to child safety
  • Undertake training to maintain compliance with all child safety legislation, standards and regulations.
